Thanks, yes, certainly my implicit understanding of copyright law my entire life is as it is understood widely now - it's always been that way in the UK at least (in my adultish lifetime at least), it just seems the US was somewhat late to the party. Thanks for the clarifications...The entire purpose of the Berne Convention Implementation Act of 1988, was to bring US Copyright law into agreement with those of other countries.
