Let's say you keep using VST2 and don't plan to change. Over time, developers will start to drop support for VST2 and stop putting out updates. Future versions will eventually be VST3 only, and/or CLAP (AU on Mac, sometimes AAX). Then you're stuck in a situation where you have lots of projects you have to slowly, and perhaps, painfully migrate to CLAP or VST3.
The sooner you do that, the better. But you can use VST2 for as long as possible if you so wish.

If you're happy with your plugins. Why update? They don't have a best before date.
There are people that use daw and plugins with win xp. They seem happy about it.

Yes, i belong to the group that do not jump on all things that want you to update this and that.
Could be what makes my daw life, and IT life, so stable and problemfree.
