The PolyBrute is the furthest from any plugin, so if you use plugins, that would be my recommendation. It’s a synth that leans towards the aggressive spectrum of things, so getting lush sounds out of it takes a bit of practice. It’s definitely the most capable analog poly, until you get up to the Moog One.If you had to choose and keep one of these three synths, which one would it be?
Polybrute / OB 6 / Prophet 6.
Quality, reliability, sound, ergonomics.
To complete a Virus Ti2, Nord Lead A1, Subsequent 37, Toraiz AS-1, Blofeld.
The Polybrute appears to be the most interesting, sequencer matrix, modulations for example.
What do you think ?
The Prophet 6 is pretty different than software as well, at least software that emulates a dual filter analog poly. The bass resonance compensation makes it sound different than Prophet 5 emulations. It’s definitely a lot simpler and you really already have a single voice of it in your Toraiz AS-1.
The OB-6 is similar to the Prophet 6, but obviously an Oberheim style sound. Since you have the Toraiz AS-1, this might be the better option of the two, to give you more options.
Anyway, they are all great instruments, so it’s a tough choice. I have the PolyBrute and the Prophet 6 and I love them both for different reasons. Even though the Prophet 6 is a subset of features of the PolyBrute, they can’t always sound similar, but definitely always as good. If you want something that leans towards classic sounds, the Sequential 6 series synths are a great choice. If you want something a bit more experimental and flexible, the Arturia is really one of the best choices, if not the best.
