Personally, I admire traditional musical composition and song writing, more so than sound design. As I generally believe that the best constructed songs should also still sound good, if they were to be performed acoustically.
That doesn't mean I don't have respect for certain types of sound design or music genres. It's just that I don't personally aspire to create tracks which sound (to me) more like a bunch of Transformers having a seizure inside a zipper factory.
If a track doesn't sound very musical to me, no matter how good the other production elements are, then I can't really vibe with it. I can still appreciate the overall production and engineering of such tracks. But I'd never willingly listen to them for entertainment purposes.
Whenever I hear people say that they don't like traditional musical presets, even the countless great instrumental sounds that have been expertly created by the top preset creators, or that somebody cannot create good music using such curated sounds. That reads as though they they are probably trying to create something more akin to "non-music" (no offence)![😜]()
Which again, I probably wouldn't be interested in either hearing or creating.
However, for anyone who does prefer to start from a completely blank slate and to create their own presets from scratch, that must be very rewarding, if they really are capable of creating almost any sound that they have in mind, from start to finish. If they also happen to be musical blessed with compositional talent, fantastic!
